One half of the 1980s pop sensation Wham! alongside Andrew Ridgeley achieving chart hits with Wake Me Up Before you Go Go, Last Christmas and I'm your Man among others. The band split in 1986 and was considered by George Michael to be "the most amicable split in pop history”.
Wham! became the first western pop group permitted to tour in China in 1985. The tour is documented in the film Foreign Skies: Wham! In China.
Has performed in duets with numerous mega stars including Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Whitney Houston, Ray Charles, Beyonce, Tony Bennett and Stevie Wonder.
Took his record company, Sony, to court in 1992 in an attempt to dissolve his contract. He claimed he had little control over his work with no right to resign. He lost the case but after refusing to perform under the Sony label, Sony agreed to sell his contract to Dreamworks.
George was famously arrested in a public restroom in Beverly Hills in 1998 and in Hampstead Heath in 2006 for 'lewd acts' and for being found asleep at the wheel of his car twice in 2006.
In 2007, he sent the £1.45 million piano that John Lennon used to write "Imagine" around the United States on a "peace tour," placing it on display at places where violence had taken place.
Georges Godson is Roman Kemp, Martin and Shirley Kemp's son.
