Designed the costumes for The Wizard of Oz including those famous ruby slippers and other MGM productions of the 1930s and 1940s.
Adrian worked with some of the biggest female stars of the day like Greta Garbo, Norma Shearer, Jeanette MacDonald, Jean Harlow, Katharine Hepburn and Joan Crawford. He also designed for many of their personal wardrobes.
His signature look in the 1940s is often remembered as the look of the period: padded shoulders, slim jacket with that emphasized the shoulder and the triangular line and a pencil skirt.
