As a result of his apprenticeship as an engineer and toolmaker, Sir Michael has an impressive collection of over 800 antique firearms, as well as a large collection of antique clocks and classic cars.

Michael's relationship with his mistress since 2000 has never been a secret, and he splits his time between his wife, Lady Anne, and his mistress and two children, Tom and Will.

Sir Michael can be a bit of a fibber.  In past interviews he has told people that he used to be gay but had to give it up because it made his eyes water.  He has also said that he trained as a dancer at the Royal Ballet but gave it up after falling off the stage and landed in one of the timpani.

In 2015 Gambon retired from the stage claiming that he could no longer remember his lines.
