After Sergey and Larry raised $1 million dollars from family, friends and other investors, Google launched in 1998 with a mission "to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful." and has become the world's most popular search engine.

Google is named after Googol which is a mathematical term referring to the number 1 followed by 100 zeros. It was originally called BackRub.

Emmigrated from Russia to the USA with his family in 1979 to escape Jewish persecution.

Met Google Co-founder Larry Page at Stanford University where they were both completing doctorates in computer science.

Following the company's launch, Sergey worked as Google's Director of Special Projects and shared the day to day responsibilities of the company with Larry Page as CEO and Eric Schmidt as Executive Chairman.  From October 2015, Sergey became the President of Google's new parent compant, Alphabet, with Larry page as CEO.

In March 2016 he was ranked number 13 in Forbes' list of the World's Billionaire's with a reported net worth of $34.4 billion.
