Made his debut for England on 13th November 2015 despite interest from Portugal, where he had lived from a young age. Captained the team in November 2017 against Germany and has never lost any of his England matches.
Youth Football
Trained with Portugal's Sporting CP from 2003 until 2014. In 2011 he was loaned to Everton's youth squad.
Moved to Portugal with his parents when he was 7 and was spotted and signed by Sporting Lisbon where he climbed into the club's senior squad while training with England's U18s in 2011.
When he was 16 he appeared in the new kit launch for England's shirt makers Umbro from where the FA spotted him.
