Assassination
Ex-FSB agent Litvinenko fled Moscow in 2000 and was given British citizenship in 2006. While in the UK he became a vocal critic of Vladimir Putin, as well as working for MI6 as an expert on Russian organised crime. He was poisoned after investigating the assassination of Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya, and before he was due to testify in Spain after investigating alleged Spanish links with Russian organised crime. UK courts concluded Putin had 'probably' approved the assassination.
