He was Britain's number 1 Tennis player in 1990.
During a televised final at the National Tennis Championships in 1990, he placed a sign next to his seat saying 'No To Poll Tax' as part of the demonstrations agains the governement's new housing tax. The Lawn Tennis Association were not impressed and refused to pay him his £9000 prize money. Instead he was fined £2,400 and lost hisplace in the British Davis Cup team.
