After styling Joan Crawford's hair for the firts time, she insisted he be her only hairdresser. This lead to Sydney being employed by MGM and becoming one of the most famous celebrity hairdressers of the 20th century.
Made legal history in 1938 by becoming the first never-married man in the United States who was allowed to adopt a child, Jon (named after Joan Crawford). Three years later he adopted another boy whom he named Eugene after his father.
