Having been abandoned by his father, he was largely raised by his grandparents and other relatives in Ireland until the age of 11 when he joined his Mother and future Step-Father in London.
Was talent spotted by the playwright Tennessee Williams in the late 1970s who offered him the part of McCabe in Red Devil Battery Sign which Brosnan played at the Roundhouse Theatre, London to great critical acclaim. Williams subsequently sent Pierce a telegram which said, "Thank God for you, my dear boy"
James bond producer Cubby Broccoli wanted Peirce as Bond in 'The Living Daylights' having met him in Corfu a few years earlier, reportedly saying "If he can act, he's my guy'. Being commiteed to the series Remington Steele, Brosnan couldn't accept the role. It would be a further 8 years before he was given opportunity to play Bond again.
Played Bond in Goldeneye, the first James Bond movie not based on an original Ian Fleming book.
