While working as a carpenter to supplement his income while only having meagre acting roles, he worked on Sergio Mendes' recording studio and the entrance to Francis Ford Coppola's L.A. office.
Star Wars Director George Lucas hired Harrison to build cabinets at his home. After learning he was actually an actor, he gave him a role in his 1973 film American Graffiti and cast him as Han Solo in Star Wars after he helped George out by reading the part opposite potential Luke Skywalkers.
When working as a carpenter he became a stagehand for the rock band, The Doors.
