Left with a permanently damaged left eye after fighting with his friend George Underwood over a girl.

1969: Released his first hit single, Space Oddity which was written after Bowie had seen Stanley Kubrick's film 2001: A Space Odessey. Previously released a self titled album that failed to chart and his first single Liza Jane/Louie Louie Go Home under the name Davie Jones with The King Bees.
1977: Recorded a duet of The Little Drummer Boy with Bing Crosby in 1977. It was Crosby's last ever single.
1997: Embraced the web with an internet only release of Telling Lies in 1996 and launched his own internet provider called Bowienet.
Voice of Lord Royal Highness in SpongeBob SquarePants in 2007.
Has declined both a knighthood and CBE.
It is estimated that he has sold around 140 million albums over his career
