Secretary to the President of Cuba (1959 - 1980)

Played a significant role in the Cuban revolution and was a close aide (and alleged lover) of Fidel Castro.  She was involved in his July 1953 attack n the Moncada barracks which resulted in his imprisonment and by 1957 was the most wanted woman in Batista's Cuba.  She was called the godmother' of the Sierra Maestra and Cuba's east as she often took care of families who lost their homes as a result of combat.
Is thought to have organised the first female battalion, known as Mariana Grajales Brigade, to fight in the Cuban revolution.
Three days before her death, Celia asked Fidel to marry Dalia.
