It was Thomas Cranmer who suggested to King Henry VIII that his marriage to Catherine of Aragon could be annulled on the grounds that it was incestuous, due to her previous marriage to his brother Arthur, thus circumventing the Pope's previous declaration that the marriage could not me annulled.
